Charles LECLERC es el más rápido de esta primera sesión en Montmeló, sesión disputada a temperaturas muy altas.
A sólo 79 milésimas ha finalizado Carlos SAINZ en segunda posición. Max VERSTAPPEN ha terminado tercero a 3 décimas.
Tras estos tres ya hay un salto, ya que RUSSELL ha sido cuarto a 7 décimas de Leclerc.
Fernando ALONSO vuelve a su posición favorita, la quinta, rozando ya el segundo de diferencia. Ha terminado justo por delante de HAMILTON.
De los debutantes, el mejor ha sido KUBICA (13º) dejando a BOTTAS a más de 6 décimas. DE VRIES (18º) ha superado también a su compañero mientras que la última posición ha sido para VIPS.

Qui la verifica più importante è sul porpoising, senza il quale c’è potenzialmente una quantità di prestazione significativa da trovare e + opzioni di setup.

Charles LECLERC vuelve a marcar el mejor tiempo, aunque esta vez quienes le pisan los talones son los pilotos de Mercedes, con RUSSELL terminando segundo a 1 décima y HAMILTON tercero a 2 décimas, mostrando que los cambios introducidos, funcionan.
La cuarta plaza ha sido para Carlos SAINZ, que quedó a 3 décimas, las mismas que VERSTAPPEN, que acabó tras él.
Fernando ALONSO ha acabado sexto a medio segundo, justo por delante de Checo PÉREZ, que le ha tocado recuperar el tiempo que no tuvo en los libres 1.
En esta sesión la temperatura ha sido algo inferior y ha habido más viento.
Todos han estado probando la durabilidad de los neumáticos. Leclerc no ha terminado muy contento con el rendimiento de los medios porque dijo que se destrozaban rápido, y eso que desde Pirelli comentan que será el neumático con el que se debería de comenzar la carrera.
La mejor muestra de que el Mercedes ha mejorado, y bastante, es la expresión de Hamilton, totalmente diferente a la que ha tenido hasta ahora.
